_ Olympics run from July 27 to Aug. 12, 2012.

_ 10,500 athletes from more than 200 countries.

_ 5,000 officials and coaches.

_ 20,000 broadcast and print media.

_ 26 sports in 32 venues.

_ Local organizing committee: LOCOG.

_ LOCOG chairman: Sebastian Coe.

_ Public sector budget: 9.298 billion pounds ($15 billion).

_ LOCOG's private operating budget: 2 billion pounds ($3.2 billion).

_ Mascots: Wenlock (Olympics) and Mandeville (Paralympics).

_ Olympic Park: 2.5-square-kilometer (1-square-mile) site in Stratford, East London.

_ 5 new permanent Olympic Park venues: Olympic Stadium, aquatics center, velodrome, handball arena, international broadcast/main press center.

_ 2 temporary Olympic Park venues: basketball arena, hockey center.
